Riverside gives you a hike with a view, a botanic garden, a historic downtown and an aircraft museum, none of them far. Distances are by road from the gate.

Outdoors

Mount Rubidoux, 2.7 miles, is the hike people do over and over, a paved climb to the Serra Cross and the Peace Tower. The UCR Botanic Gardens, 3.3 miles, cover about 40 acres of hillside at the edge of campus and are open to the public. For neighborhood walks, Patterson Park is 0.2 mile from the gate. Downtown and the arts

Downtown Riverside, 1.9 miles west, is built around the Mission Inn, with the Fox Performing Arts Center and the Riverside Art Museum a block away and a car-free stretch of Main Street between them. The downtown page walks through it.

A museum and a shopping day

The March Field Air Museum, beside March Air Reserve Base, is 9.0 miles out, with more than a hundred aircraft on display. For a shopping day, Riverside Plaza is 3.9 miles, the Galleria at Tyler 10.1 and the Moreno Valley Mall 6.3.
